A series of incidents kept emergency services in Madeira busy, involving an assault, a house fire, and a traffic mishap involving an intoxicated pedestrian.

In the early hours of February 17, 2026, emergency services in Madeira were dispatched to handle multiple incidents across the island, highlighting the vigilance and responsiveness of local authorities.

Young Man Assaulted in Funchal

Around 5 AM, a young man, aged 18, was reportedly assaulted on Avenida Sá Carneiro in Funchal. The victim received immediate medical attention from the Sapadores Firefighters of Funchal before being transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment. Details about the circumstances of the assault remain unclear, and local authorities are likely investigating the incident.

Fire in SĂŁo Martinho

Earlier, at approximately 4 AM, firefighters were deployed to Travessa das Quebradas de Baixo in SĂŁo Martinho, Funchal, to combat a blaze that erupted in the attic of a residential property. Thirteen firefighters and four fire engines were involved in extinguishing the fire, which fortunately did not result in any reported injuries.

Pedestrian Incident in Câmara de Lobos

At 2 AM, another call saw emergency services dispatched to Estrada Vitória in Câmara de Lobos, where a man under the influence of bloom—a local slang for a synthetic drug—claimed that a vehicle had run over his foot.
