A series of emergency incidents, including a car rollover, assaults, and fires, kept Madeira's emergency services busy throughout the night.

In a night filled with emergency calls, Madeira saw a range of incidents that kept local authorities on high alert. The night of April 2, 2026, was particularly eventful for the emergency services of Madeira, with multiple incidents occurring across the region.

Car Rollover in São Martinho

In the early hours of the morning, at approximately 3 AM, the Funchal Fire Brigade responded to a car rollover at the entrance of the expressway in São Martinho, heading towards Câmara de Lobos. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, although the vehicle sustained significant damage. Five fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to manage the situation.

Multiple Assaults in Funchal

The Funchal Fire Brigade was also called to respond to three separate assault incidents in the city. The first two assaults occurred around 2 AM near the São Martinho roundabout, involving two men aged in their 30s and 40s who suffered cuts and bruises. A third incident happened around 5 AM on Avenida Zarco, where a man in his 50s, reportedly intoxicated, was also assaulted. All injured individuals were transported to the Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for treatment.

Fires in Caniço and Chamorra

Fire crews were kept busy with two fire incidents. The first was on April 1, 2026, at 5:35 AM, when the Funchal Fire Brigade responded to a car fire on Caminho Velho da Chamorra, which completely destroyed the vehicle. Eleven firefighters with three vehicles attended the scene.

A more significant fire incident occurred in Caniço on April 2, 2026, mobilizing three fire brigades, including the Santa Cruz Fire Brigade, the Madeirense Volunteer Firefighters, and the Funchal Fire Brigade. This fire took place near the Estrada das Fontes, close to the expressway, and required substantial resources to control.

These incidents highlight the quick response and efficiency of Madeira's emergency services in managing multiple crises in a short timeframe.
