The Clube de Ecologia Barbusano embarked on an adventurous 13-kilometer walk along the Levada dos Tornos, offering an immersive experience in Madeira's natural beauty.

The Clube de Ecologia Barbusano, affiliated with the Escola Secundária de Francisco Franco, recently undertook a field trip that explored the stunning landscapes of Madeira. This excursion involved a 13-kilometer trek along the historic Levada dos Tornos, concluding at the picturesque site of Lamaceiros.

Starting at an altitude of 500 meters, the journey commenced at a small square at the end of a road. Participants ascended a path that weaved through residential areas and agricultural lands, ultimately reaching the Levada dos Tornos at 650 meters.

The Levada dos Tornos is one of Madeira's most renowned irrigation channels, offering not only essential water supply but also a scenic route for walkers. The walk highlighted the unique settlement patterns of the Boaventura parish, known for its distinct character and natural charm.

These levadas, a hallmark of Madeira's landscape, are vital for transporting water from the wetter regions in the north to the sunnier south, supporting agriculture and providing a lush, green backdrop for hiking enthusiasts.

The Clube de Ecologia Barbusano’s initiative underscores the importance of ecological education and the appreciation of natural environments. Such activities promote awareness and engage the community in preserving the island's rich biodiversity.
