The ports of Madeira and Leixões have signed a strategic three-year agreement to enhance digital transformation and technological innovation, promising significant advancements in port operations.

In a significant move towards modernizing port operations, the Madeira and Leixões ports have entered into a collaborative agreement focusing on digital transformation and technological innovation. This partnership, effective for three years, was formalized in a ceremony held in Leixões, marking a substantial step for both regions.

The agreement was signed by Paula Cabaço, President of the Administration of Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM, SA), and João Neves, her counterpart from the Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões, and Viana do Castelo (APDL, SA). This collaboration aims to share resources and expertise, leveraging each port's strengths.

According to Cabaço, the partnership is strategically valuable for Madeira as it enhances cooperation with a port administration equally committed to digitalization and technological innovation. Madeira is expected to gain from Leixões' expertise in operational management and security, while contributing its own cruise industry knowledge.

Neves highlighted the protocol's importance in advancing the commercialization of 4PORT products, which are integral to digitalizing port operations. This agreement prioritizes port management, information and communication systems, cybersecurity, and technological innovation.

Specifically, APDL will provide applications such as 4Planning, 4Watch, and LiveMap, which enhance traffic monitoring and operational control, while APRAM will supply data on regional port activities to further develop these applications.

This endeavor is expected to significantly bolster the efficiency and competitiveness of both ports, reinforcing their roles as key maritime hubs.
