The cruise ship Costa Fortuna docked in Funchal, Madeira, bringing nearly four thousand passengers and crew for a day visit. This major event boosts local tourism and highlights Madeira's significance as a cruise destination.

The bustling Port of Funchal welcomed the grand cruise ship Costa Fortuna on Sunday, January 18, 2026. This visit, organized by the agency Blatas, involved the movement of approximately four thousand individuals, including 2,746 passengers and 940 crew members. The ship's arrival signifies a significant boost to local tourism, providing an influx of visitors eager to explore the sights and sounds of Madeira.

The Costa Fortuna entered Funchal Bay at 6:45 AM, setting the stage for a bustling day of activities. Passengers were given the opportunity to disembark and experience the unique culture and natural beauty that Madeira offers. The ship was scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM for Tenerife, marking the end of a seven-day voyage through the Canary Islands and Madeira.

This visit was part of a small turnaround operation involving 137 passengers—70 disembarking and 67 embarking. Such operations are crucial for maintaining the flow of tourists in and out of Madeira, supporting local businesses and the economy.

In addition to the Costa Fortuna, the port also hosted several mega-yachts, including the I Dynasty, Artefact, and Canova. These vessels contribute to the vibrant maritime activity in the region, with I Dynasty and Artefact arriving from Philipsburg in the Dutch Antilles and planning subsequent voyages to European destinations.

The presence of these ships underscores Madeira's strategic importance as a maritime hub in the Atlantic. The port’s ability to accommodate large cruise ships and luxury yachts highlights the infrastructure's capability to handle diverse maritime activities.
