The bustling port of Funchal was abuzz this past Sunday as the cruise ship Costa Fortuna arrived for a scheduled turnaround operation. This brief yet significant event saw the ship docking at the port with a complement of 2,719 passengers and 940 crew members.
The Costa Fortuna, operated by Costa Crociere, arrived from Las Palmas early in the morning and was scheduled to depart at 5 PM towards Tenerife, continuing its weekly cruise route along the Cruise Atlantic Islands, which includes the Canary Islands and Madeira.
During its 11-hour stay at the port, the ship facilitated the disembarkation of 65 passengers and the embarkation of 68 new guests, ensuring a seamless transition for its international clientele.
This operation highlights Madeira's strategic importance as a key stopover in the Atlantic cruise circuit. The island's scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage continue to attract tourists from around the globe.
In addition to the Costa Fortuna, the mega-yacht Andromeda remains anchored in the region, having arrived from Marigot, St. Maarten, and is scheduled to leave for Gibraltar. The presence of other cruise ships like Azura, AIDAcosma, and the scientific expedition vessel Island Frontier further underscores Funchal's growing reputation as a vibrant maritime hub.
