Community Mourns Passing of Three Esteemed Residents in Madeira

This past week, the Madeira community was struck with the news of the passing of three esteemed members, each leaving behind a legacy of love and community service. Ana Maria de Freitas Gomes, Requelina Reinolds, and Maria Aguiar de Freitas have departed, leaving their loved ones and the community in mourning.

Ana Maria de Freitas Gomes, a resident of the Sítio da Fazenda, in the parish of Gaula, Santa Cruz, passed away, leaving behind a large family that cherished her dearly. Her funeral is scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2026, at the Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Gaula, followed by a burial at the local cemetery. A vigil will be held an hour before the funeral service.

Requelina Reinolds, from Sítio do Lombo de Baixo, Faial, Santana, also passed away. Her funeral will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Igreja Paroquial do Faial. The family expressed their gratitude to the staff of the Lar de Idosos de Santana for their care and support.

Maria Aguiar de Freitas was a beloved resident of Caminho do Lombo da Casada, Ponta do Sol. Her funeral arrangements include a service at the Capela de Santo Amaro - Lombada on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The family appreciates the community's solidarity during this time.

In line with local customs, the families have organized seventh-day masses to honor their loved ones. These gatherings not only serve as a spiritual farewell but also as a moment for the community to come together in support.
