The Casa do Povo do Porto Moniz, one of Madeira's oldest social institutions, continues to support over a hundred elderly residents, providing essential social and cultural services.

The Casa do Povo do Porto Moniz, a cornerstone of social support in Madeira, recently hosted a visit from Paula Margarido, the regional secretary for Inclusion, Labour, and Youth. This visit underscored the institution's commitment to aiding over one hundred elderly individuals in the region.

Founded in 1973, the Casa do Povo is the third oldest institution of its kind in Madeira. It has been recognized as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) since 2021, reinforcing its mission to offer proximity and social support to local communities.

Located at SĂtio da Santa, the institution is pivotal in promoting social, cultural, and educational initiatives throughout the Porto Moniz municipality. Its programs are particularly focused on the senior population, offering a variety of engagement activities and support services.

The Casa do Povo partners with the Regional Government in implementing programs such as PROAGES and the Regional Supplement for the Elderly (CRI). These initiatives, including an extraordinary benefit until Q4 2025, have supported 111 elderly residents.

Key to its operations are the Community Centers located in Seixal, Ribeira da Janela, and Santa, which serve as vital social intervention hubs. These centers cater to around 100 daily visitors, providing a space for community engagement and support.

“Our Community Centers and the entire structure of the Casa do Povo are always ready to collaborate as needed,” affirmed Henrique Silva, the institution's president, highlighting their ongoing commitment to service.
