28 fishermen in Caniçal completed a crucial safety training course, enhancing their maritime skills and ensuring compliance with upcoming regulations. This initiative, supported by local authorities, is vital for both seasoned fishermen and newcomers.

In an important step towards enhancing maritime safety, 28 fishermen from Caniçal, Madeira, have successfully completed a 66-hour basic safety training course. This initiative, conducted by the Escola Formação Náutica Recreio Radar Virtual, aims to equip fishermen with essential skills for safe navigation and operations at sea.

The training, which was supported by the Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, underscores the local government's commitment to maritime safety. Certificates were awarded to the participants, marking their readiness for the demands of the fishing industry.

This training not only fulfills a legal requirement but also ensures that fishermen are well-prepared for their roles. Maciel emphasized the need for such training to be mandatory within a year for anyone involved in maritime activities, highlighting its importance for safety and professionalism.

In addition to basic navigation and safety techniques, the course covered critical areas such as vessel maneuvering, onboard safety protocols, and maritime weather interpretation. These skills are crucial for fishermen operating in the often unpredictable waters around Madeira.

The partnership with Casa do Povo do Caniçal and the Association of Casas do Povo of Madeira (ACOPRAMA) demonstrates a community-driven approach to enhancing professional competencies. The initiative also provides opportunities for those with maritime experience but without formal qualifications to gain recognized certification.

This effort is part of a broader strategy to support the local fishing community and ensure that Madeira's maritime workforce is equipped with up-to-date skills and knowledge. The government sees this as a pathway to enhance safety and efficiency, ultimately benefiting the region's economy.
