Madeira GuideThe Port of Funchal welcomes nearly 10,000 passengers with cruise ships and a Norwegian training ship, marking a vibrant start to the week for Madeira.
The Port of Funchal has kicked off the week with a bustling scene, welcoming three cruise ships and a Norwegian training vessel. This influx of visitors marks a significant boost for Madeira's tourism industry as nearly 10,000 people, including passengers and crew, arrive on the island.
According to the Madeira Ports Administration (APRAM), the cruise ships AIDAcosma, Azura, and Wind Star, along with the Norwegian training ship Christian Radich, have docked at the port. Together, they bring a total of 7,990 people, comprising 6,576 passengers and 1,414 crew members.
The AIDAcosma was the first to arrive, having sailed from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is set to depart for Tenerife later in the evening at 22:30. Managed by Blatas, the ship's visit is part of a scheduled itinerary that highlights the strategic importance of Funchal as a stopover in the Atlantic for cruise lines.
This surge in maritime activity is not only a boon for the local economy but also showcases Madeira's appeal as a prime destination for both leisure and educational voyages. The presence of the Christian Radich, a traditional tall ship, adds a cultural dimension to the port's activities, offering a glimpse into maritime training and heritage.
The arrival of these vessels at Funchal port underscores the island's readiness to accommodate large numbers of visitors while providing them with a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and warm hospitality.
