Banda Municipal de Santana Celebrates a Century of Musical Legacy

The Banda Municipal de Santana, a cornerstone of Madeira's musical heritage, celebrates its 100th anniversary with a series of commemorative events. Founded on April 4, 1926, this institution has played a pivotal role in preserving the island's rich musical traditions.

Situated in the northern part of Madeira, the Banda Municipal de Santana has been a vital part of the community, offering cultural enrichment and musical education. To mark this milestone, the band organized a special program starting with the raising of flags and the performance of their anthem at their headquarters. A procession followed, leading to the Town Hall, where a formal commemorative session took place in the city square at 3 PM. This was followed by the launch of a centenary book at 3:30 PM and tributes to past and present members at 4 PM.

The celebration also saw political recognition, with both the CDS-PP and PSD parties presenting Votes of Congratulation in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, highlighting the band's significant contribution to the cultural life of the region.

Over the past century, the Banda Municipal de Santana, originally known as Fanfarra Recreio Santanense, has evolved significantly. It has served as a platform for musical training and civic involvement, helping to preserve and promote Madeira's musical traditions.
