Madeira GuideIn a surprising turn of events, André Ventura, the far-right candidate, wins major municipalities in Madeira including Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, and Santana, setting a significant precedent in the region's political landscape.
In the recent presidential elections held across Madeira, André Ventura, the far-right candidate, emerged victorious in several key municipalities, including Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, and Santana. His success has marked a significant shift in the political landscape of the region, traditionally dominated by more centrist and left-leaning parties.
Funchal: A Major Win
André Ventura secured a notable victory in Funchal, the capital of Madeira, garnering 30.26% of the votes. His tally of 17,007 votes surpassed António José Seguro by 3,573 votes, who received 23.90% of the votes. This result is particularly striking as Ventura managed to outvote the combined totals of João Cotrim de Figueiredo and Luis Marques Mendes, who finished third and fourth respectively.
Câmara de Lobos: Doubling the Margin
In Câmara de Lobos, Ventura's victory was more pronounced. He achieved 38.99% of the vote, with a total of 6,393 votes, more than doubling the votes of António José Seguro, who secured 2,882 votes or 17.58%. This decisive win reflects Ventura's growing influence and the shifting political sentiments within this municipality.
Santana: Narrow Yet Significant
In Santana, Ventura's victory was narrower but equally important. He won with 30.37% of the votes, exceeding Seguro by 305 votes. The fourth-place candidates, Marques Mendes and João Cotrim de Figueiredo, trailed behind with 18.49% and 11.79% respectively.
These results indicate a significant political shift in Madeira, as Ventura's far-right perspectives gain traction among the electorate. This trend may influence future elections and political strategies in the region.
